Bedford Park Neighbourhood

Long before Bedford Park was established as the busy, family-friendly neighbourhood it is today, its main intersection of Yonge Street and Lawrence Avenue was used as a stopover for farmers of the 1870’s and 1880’s. This area (just north of the city at the time) became a hub for the north end of Toronto soon after with the development of the Metropolitan Street Railway in the 1890’s.

Today, Bedford Park is just as much of a hub of activity from shops and restaurants, to parks and transit. But it’s the excellent school district that cements this uptown neighbourhood among the most desirable in the city.

Bedford Park Homes

Bedford Park is a true residential neighbourhood, with charming tree-lined streets running east and west from bustling upper Yonge Street. A mix of detached and semi-detached homes characterize the area, with most having been built between the years of 1890 and 1940. In more recent decades, extensive renovations from complete interior overhauls to new builds and custom designed homes have been common practice, thus accommodating the needs and lifestyles of modern family living.

Bedford Park Real Estate Market

Due to the quality of the area’s public schools, and great proximity to uptown private and independent schools, Bedford Park has been and remains a strong and consistent real estate choice for young and growing families. Beyond schooling, the array of conveniences along Yonge Street north of Lawrence Avenue, as well as prime positioning along the coveted Yonge-University-Spadina subway line, Bedford Park is one of a few North Toronto neighbourhoods that can fulfill many real estate wish lists.

Bedford Park Schools

Children walk to and from neighbourhood schools, families play in the area’s many parkettes, professionals come and go from nearby Lawrence subway station, and everyone enjoys the convenience of Yonge Street’s restaurants, services, and grocery stores right at their fingertips.

Neighbourhood landmarks include the George Locke Library at the southeast corner of Yonge Street and Lawrence Avenue East, Belly Buster Submarine (a local favourite!), and Syder School of Music, serving the community with music lessons, instruments, and equipment for over 50 years.
